Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium mass balances in an irrigated quinoa field

چکیده
Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) needs to increase food productivity alleviate insecurity exacerbated by climate variability and increasing demand. Balancing macronutrient inputs is essential for sustaining yields, farmer’s income minimizing environmental costs deriving from fertilizer misuse. The present study calculates the nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) potassium (K) mass balances estimates outputs of a quinoa field cultivated under full deficit irrigation conditions (100 50% crop evapotranspiration - ETc), in either presence or absence N 0 kg ha–1 N). emerging findings show that produce one ton biomass (including seeds, stems leaves) 12.7, 1.6 35.5 N, P K, respectively, need be added into soil. While K are required at medium fairly high amounts, needed lower amounts. Hence, fertilizers form nitrate (KNO3) more suitable than those with higher concentrations, example phosphate (PO43–). Overall, evidences experimentations necessary integrating farming input recommendations on agronomic guidelines, driven national agricultural research institutions, promoting sustainable agriculture SSA.

Long-term trends of nitrogen and phosphorus mass balances on New York State dairy farms.
The whole-farm nutrient mass balance (NMB) is an adaptive management tool that can be used to identify areas for improvement in nutrient management and to monitor progress over time. The objectives of this study were to (1) evaluate the trends of nitrogen and phosphorus mass balances of 27 New York State dairy farms over 6 to 10 yr, (2) identify specific management changes made by 4 case study ...
متن کاملNitrogen and phosphorus balances on Finnish dairy farms
The calculation of whole-farm nutrient balance is an effective and simple method for estimating the potential nutrient loading from dairy farming into the environment. In Finland, however, the published results based on larger number of farms are still lacking. In this study whole-farm nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) balances on Finnish dairy farms were studied based on short-cut data for the y...
متن کاملNitrogen mass balances in conventional, integrated and ecological cropping systems and the relationship between balance calculations and nitrogen runoff in an 8-year field experiment in Norway
For a cropping system to be sustainable, should not only the soil nitrogen (N) content be preserved but also the N runoff be minimised. Finding a simple but robust way to estimate N runoff would thus be a great advantage when evaluating cropping systems. In this study all major N flows in six different cropping systems, each covering 0.18 ha of a separately pipe drained field lysimeter, located...
متن کاملPotassium Balances in Maintenance Hemodialysis
Potassium is abundant in the ICF compartment in the body and its excretion primarily depends on renal (about 90%), and to a lesser extent (about 10%) on colonic excretion. Total body potassium approximated to 50mmol/kg body weight and 2% of total body potassium is in the ECF compartment and 98% of it in the intracellular compartment.Dyskalemia is a frequent electrolyte imbalance observed among ...
متن کاملO'connor: Nitrogen Balances in Grasslands Nitrogen Balances in Natural Grasslands and Extensively-managed Grassland Systems
An approach is outlined for synthesising current understanding of nitrogen dynamics in natural grasslands and extensively managed grassland systems. The increasing complexity of models is illustrated from recent literature, first conceptualising and eventually process-simulating the dynamics of nitrogen, especially in the soil sub-systems of grasslands. Some comparisons are made between New Zea...
